Marianne Challis is a professional voice teacher in New York City, teaching primarily Broadway theater professionals, as well as light opera, R&B, folk, and pop singers. Having been trained for over 18 years by leading vocal therapist and voice teacher Joan Lader, Marianne has become known as the teacher to call for solid vocal foundation, diagnosis and correction of technical problems, and repertoire development.   She has also served as a vocal technician for organizations such as Disney Productions and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, helping to prepare actors for roles in such shows as "Beauty and the Beast," "Hunchback of Notre Dame," "Carousel," "Violet," and "Little Shop of Horrors."  

Marianne is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University in Vocal Performance and Music Education, and has also studied in the Opera Department of Northwestern University and at the famed Guthrie Theater.  She was an Associate Professor of Vocal Studies at the University of Hartford's Hartt School for seven years, and served as a consultant as that music theater program was being created.  

Marianne's client list reads like a Broadway Playbill, with students currently in productions of "Hairspray," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Producers," "Sweeney Todd," "Chicago," "Phantom of the Opera," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "Mama Mia,"  "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," and "Pajama Game," as well as major national touring companies and workshops.  She maintains a vocal studio near Carnegie Hall and one in Fairfield, Connecticut.  Presently, Marianne also travels to universities and private organizations across the country to teach master classes on the specific demands of musical theater singing; including belting, mixing, vocal hygiene, and repertoire recommendations.
